Building Core Strength

Yoga, SurfSet Fitness & Whole Foods: a perfect combination to help you build core strength both inside and out.

There is a lot of talk about the importance of core strength these days and our society certainly reveres the ‘6 pack’, so much so that people will put themselves through some pretty crazy and often harmful fitness and dietary regimes in order to attain this idealized washboard stomach.

Through my yoga practice both on and off the mat and my experience as a SurfSet Trainer and Holistic Wellness Educator, I have come to recognize the importance of building a strong core, not only physically, but mentally & emotionally as well.

Yet, the importance of this has nothing to do with obtaining this glorified ideal of the 6 pack stomach.  It does however, have everything to do with giving yourself the gift of living a strong, balanced, centred, energized and fully ALIVE life.  If you happen to build an amazingly solid set of ripped ab’s along the way, so be it, but that’s just a nice side effect.

Building Core Strength; physically, mentally, emotionally.

Building Core Strength; physically, mentally, emotionally.

Strengthening your core is an essential aspect of any good physical fitness regimen. Strong abdominal muscles mean better posture, less chance of back injury, and more connection to your centre—which can translate into, among other things, more self-confidence and an increased sense of balance & mental stability.

Focusing on & building your core also stokes your digestive fire and this strong digestive fire increases your ability to process the food you take in, while helping to trap toxins and release them from the body and at the same time encouraging the elimination of excess fat. Yes, with a strong core your body burns calories more efficiently and effectively!

Not only will a dedicated core practice create physical strength and mental stability it may also open you up to exploring your ethical core values.  As you delve into your physical yoga (and SurfSet) practice, which often leads to healthier eating habits and an improved overall sense of well-being, you may also find yourself contemplating your life purpose (dharma) and as you begin to feel stronger physically you will naturally begin to feel stronger and more centred mentally, allowing you to take bigger and braver strides towards living the life you envision for yourself, rather than standing back with fear and insecurity and allowing your dreams to pass you by.

You are stronger than you think you are.

You are stronger than you think you are.

This new found physical, mental and emotional core strength will lead you to incredibly rewarding and fulfilling places and it is all available to you; simply begin by coming to the mat or SurfSet board.  Take that first step and unleash your inner strength.

I encourage you to forget the old-school way of building your core with boring and grueling old sit-ups, and get yourself to the Yoga mat and RipSurfer X, SurfSet board.  This is the fastest and most body, mind & spirit friendly approach to a strong core that you will ever find.

I promise you, you will not regret taking this step towards living your ultimate life.
